Oxford Precious Plastic is a student-led initiative based in Oxford, Mississippi dedicated to transforming the way our community thinks about plastic waste. Inspired by the global Precious Plastic movement, we use open-source recycling machines and educational outreach to convert local #5 polypropylene into durable, meaningful products for public use.
We believe recycling can be accessible, empowering, and even fun. Our mission is not just to reduce waste, but to educate our peers, build technical skills, and shape a sustainable future—right here in our high school workshop.
The original Precious Plastic project started in 2013 by Dave Hakkens, offering open-source machine blueprints and a community-based system for recycling plastic anywhere in the world. We are proud to localize that global movement, adding our voice and innovation to the solution.
Our goals are simple but ambitious:
Whether it's creating outdoor furniture, classroom materials, or public art—we believe every shredded plastic cup is a chance to create something better.
