How We Recycle Plastic at Oxford

1. Collect and Sort Plastic

We collect #5 polypropylene plastic waste from local sources—cafeterias, homes, and community centers. Then, we sort it by color and cleanliness to ensure high-quality final products.

2. Wash and Shred

After sorting, we thoroughly wash the plastic to remove any food residues or labels. Then, it’s fed into our shredder, turning it into small flakes perfect for extrusion or molding.

3. Melt and Extrude

Using our custom-built extrusion machine, we heat the shredded plastic to the right temperature (usually 220–235°C), and push it through molds to form beams or inject it into product shapes like frames and bricks.

4. Build Products

We use the extruded beams to assemble community benches, chairs, and other durable items. Our goal is to create something long-lasting from what was once waste.

5. Reuse & Educate

Our team spreads awareness, hosts workshops, and teaches others how to recycle and repurpose plastic—building a cleaner, more informed community.
